CGC and Beyond
Basic obedience training training starts with being able to recall your dog. This is the most important command you can teach your canine companion and can save his life. Shelzmide K9s starts with the recall and takes your dog as far as you’re willing to go. Through our programs your dog can learn to heel on and off a leash, sit, lie down, and stand for examination. Amaze your friends with hand signals from across the yard, or train your dog to obey in life saving situations.
This is a five week obedience training program where dogs and puppies learn basic obedience in a structured learning environment. Classes are usually once a week for 1 to 1.5 hours each class. The CGC is an official title offered by the American Kennel Club.
Upon completion of the course dogs should feel comfortable in the following areas:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Appearance and grooming
- Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
- Walking through a crowd
- Sit and down on command and Staying in place
- Coming when called
- Reaction to another dog
- Reaction to distraction
- Supervised separation 3 minutes
Shelzsmide offers the ongoing obedience training required to hone the skills of your advanced adult dog. Whether you want to win best in show, or walk into that 5th Ave coffee shop with your dog patiently waiting off lead, we can help you reach your goals. With formal obedience training your dog can master the proper heel position, the standard sit, down, stay, and retrieve, a reliable recall and an emergency down or down on recall. He will also learn send out, jumps, scaling an 8 foot wall, and figure eights. All of this despite surrounding distractions.
Ongoing obedience classes include:
- AKC CGCA Community Canine Advanced CGC
- Competition Obedience
- Open Obedience
