IPO / Schutzhund

IPO / Schutzhund is a dog sport that was developed in Germany in the early 1900’s as a breed suitability test for the German Shepherd Dog. The test would determine if the dog displayed the appropriate traits and characteristics of a working German Shepherd Dog. Today, it is used as a sport where many breeds can compete, it is a demanding test for any dog.

Shelzsmide K9s is one of the only trainers in SW Florida regularly practicing protection dog training. Protect, Obey, Track – these are the pillars of classic Schutzhund training. We usually train in tracking twice a week, obedience 1 a week, and protection twice a month. Many of our dogs hold SCH 3 and IPO 2 titles.
